Before becoming a deputy……
I was and still am a qualified chartered surveyor, a Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and a counsellor to young surveyors entering into the profession.
I worked at Savills Commercial for 4 years where I delivered, advised and negotiated on commercial property contract leases for multi-million pound deals, on time and within my clients’ expectations.
In 2007 I became a Senior Surveyor at GVA Billfinger where I acted for many major multinational companies as their lead retail property contract negotiator, specialising in lease negotiation and Asset Management. I have experience of managing property portfolios of large and small companies both in the private and public sectors for the last 10 years.
Born in Guernsey, I was educated at Blanchelande Girls School and then went to Millfield. Graduated from Bristol University West of England with honours in Business and Property.
I now live in St Martin with my husband Joe, who is owner and director of a firm providing qualified financial advice and our little 5 year old girl, Ruby and our twins of 16 months, Cara and Eliza. We enjoy every part of our Island life and really get involved.
My time as a deputy
During my time in the States I was a member of Home Affairs where I helped continuously to save money and improve the services. I saved money by highlighting the cost savings of moving the committee to a new property. My passion was the Justice Review it took time but we now have a solid basis and need to move forward.
I have been Vice President of Development and Planning Authority which is where I have excelled, due to my experience and qualifications and firmly believe I can develop this committee further should I be elected. Every year the committee has met its budget. After 4 years I have got the committee and planners to agree to enchance fast track decisions, by bringing more developments into scope. This means that the waiting times for planning decisions will reduce, which are already far too long. I have also got the committee to agree to recording the meetings, meaning that as the minute taking is now reordered, the officers save at least 3 days work, every meeting, bringing cost savings that can be deployed elsewhere.
I have been an integral part of the University Working Party, the basic study has shown that this would be an economy enabler, so we have asked Oxford University, Oxentia to report back on the viability of the project in September.
Seafront Enhancement Area - this has been slow progress but these big ideas do need careful consideration. We finally got through the States some funding for this project and its own committee which should help create momentum.
I was tasked with optimising the use of the States Land and Property Portfolio due to my surveying qualifications - this resulted in a good policy paper which was agreed on by the States and would have really revolutionised the portfolio, however, true to Guernsey form, which I am looking to stamp out next term, it was decided to give the job to someone with no property experience.
Why?
I am not afraid to put my head above the parapet, as I have done numerous times.
I will fight your corner for your rights.
I have the courage of conviction to stand up for what I believe is right for Guernsey.
I can and have made a difference .
I make the time to listen.
I have represented you in the States with authenticity and commitment.
I prioritise looking for a solution rather than focusing on the problem.
I promise that I will always vote with common sense and integrity. The future is in our hands. It’s up to us to ensure it is better. Together we can achieve a better Guernsey.
I represent a family working life and, like you, do not want my taxes to be wasted. I want to be able to offer you the benefit of my experience and knowledge in working for our beautiful island over the next four years.
"Thank you for considering me for your vote”
and a big thank you to Martin Belcher for nominating and to Susie Crowder for seconding me.
